The telephone has revolutionized the world. Not only in the manner of connecting the voices of the most remote places on earth, but it also was the means of accessing the internet in it’s early stages, igniting what is arguably the greatest technological breakthrough since the first phones themselves. Now phones calls are being run over the internet, kind of a role reversal system with VOIP.

In the future, the home phone will probably go the way of the 8 track, as users now have sometimes upwards of 4-5 cell phones per household, and as the technology for VOIP improves. Eventually all of our communication will be wireless, but sometimes nothing beats an old fashioned analog technology. Similar to how anyone with a basic mechanical sense used to be able to pinch and pull, loosen and tighten different parts of the engine and deduce what the problem is then fix it in a couple minutes. Nowadays the most highly trained mechanics must use a computer to diagnose what quadrant of the engine computer is malfunctioning, then have a software program go in and hopefully fix it. So the telephone may become a technology so advanced in the future, that making a call can be as simple as pressing your finger to your ear, but it takes a neurosurgion to check your voicemail.
